Bi-ANNUAL SPEECH COMPETITION

Since 1971, Indiana University Indianapolis, Department of Communication Studies Speech Competition has provided students a forum to experience the best principles of oral communication and persuasion in action. The competition recognizes both the importance of speaking well and judging wisely. The Department of Communication Studies competition allows students from the Fundamentals of Speech Communication course at Indiana University Indianapolis an opportunity to showcase their public speaking abilities.The event showcases students’ knowledge and talent in the historic Madam Walker Legacy Center Theatre which seats over 1,000 guests. The event is also streamed live to a  vast virtual audience. This applied learning competition has been held bi-annually for over 50 years, students and faculty have proudly watched contestants become leaders – in business, academics, industry, media, and government. They demonstrate expertise in effective oral communication. Indiana University, Department of Commuication Studies celebrates all our talented students, past, present, and future.
